Gita’s San Jose Dental Visit
What
makes this routine dental visit out of ordinary is that Gita is a
rare Royal White Tiger. She is 3 years old, 4 feet high, over 8 feet
long
and weighs more than 420 pounds. She is one in 1000 genetic variations
born to regular Bengal tiger parents. There are 38 in the United
States and only 400 in captivity in the world. They are an endangered
species.
Like other tigers, Royal whites live 25 to 30 years and can weigh
as much as 600 pounds upon maturity (4-5 years).
Gita is owned by ZooCats Zoological system. They are a non-profit
animal conservation corporation and specialize in loaning hard-to-find
animals to zoos around the United States for specific exhibits. Gita’s
appointment included her annual dental exam, oral health exam, cancer
screening and teeth cleaning. She had eight cavities that were restored
with tooth-colored fillings. Gita also had her canines whitened from
yellow to white.
